When children held up ‘Go Copy That!’ placards one night at Alexandra Park in Auckland it was proof that the pocket rocket had joined that elite group whose feats would be talked about for decades to come.

But it wasn’t just his two New Zealand Trotting Cups that cemented his place in equine history, it was his rare brand of speed that singled him out.

Whether dictating terms in front or exploding from the rear with electrifying sectionals, he captured feature races on both sides of the Tasman.

His feats not only won over punters and fans but drew the highest praise from the industry’s most decorated drivers and trainers.

Ray Green

Trainer
“He fits every superlative you can think of. I’ve had a lot of good horses but he was something else. He was the whole package. He was deadly from a stand, quick out of the gate, he could do anything. You could put him anywhere in a field and he’d drop the bit, he was just a professional racehorse. He had speed and toughness but most of all the greatest constitution and resilience.”

Maurice McKendry

3000 club driver, 3417 wins, 12 on Copy That.

“He had it all. He was very quick and he could stay too. He ended up the perfect racehorse, with a beautiful gait. He did it so easily, he shuffled over the ground and next minute you were going a 26 quarter. He was definitely one of the best I’ve driven.”

Blair-Orange
Blair Orange

Seven times premiership winning driver, 2910 wins, 10 on Copy That.

“He was right up with the best horses I’ve driven. You could drive him however you felt you needed to and, even when you drove him bad, he made you look good. He had toughness and speed. He raced every year at the top level and just got better and better.”

Anthony-Butt
Anthony Butt

Driver and Living Legend, 2492 wins, 2 on Copy That.

“I haven’t driven too many horses faster than him. Very few horses in Australasia could have won the Wondai’s Mate from where he was in the running. And he picked them up so quickly, showing unbelieveable speed.”

Group racing record makes $4600 stud fee look a bargain

At a stud fee of just $4600 inc GST, Copy That represents amazing value for broodmare owners in Western Australia.

The young stallion boasts a record that outstrips all his opposition in the state but it’s not just his 33 wins and more than $2 million in earnings that sets him apart.

Harness racing’s gold standard is results at Group level, where only the best horses compete, and Copy That’s CV shines like a beacon.

Thirty four of Copy That’s 68 starts were in Group races and he was in the money in 23 of them, winning 14 times and placing in nine.

His Group I record of six wins and five placings from 19 starts eclipses everything in the west – and of the other sires only Ultimate Sniper (four wins) achieved one outside of age group racing, the others Fly Like An Eagle (four), Bonavista Bay (three) and Renaissance Man (two).

Copy That’s laurels were earned against all-comers and include six wins and two placings from 11 starts at Group II level and two wins and two placings from four starts in Group III.

None of the three American performers in the west scored in the equivalent of town hall class – Captain Ahab won seven races all up, three in two-year-old stakes races in Canada, the best of Shoobee’s Place’s 21 wins was a Free-for-all Consolation and the biggest of Foreclosure’s 15 wins was in the American National at Illinois as a five-year-old.
